In a landmark moment just days ago, on 8 August 2025, history was made in Washington DC. Decades of conflict and division between Azerbaijan and Armenia reached a turning point as our leaders, alongside the President of the United States, signed the Joint Declaration – the first definitive step toward a lasting peace treaty. It was the moment hope opened the door to a future our people have long yearned for.
For too long, our region has been defined by war, loss and the pain of divided lands. This Peace Declaration, made possible with the vital support of President Trump and the US, is a turning point that will shape the lives of millions. It is the promise that our children will grow up in a Caucasus free from the fear of war, where neighbours can live not as enemies, but as partners in a shared future.
For us Azerbaijanis this is the triumph of our people’s will, the vision of our Great Leader, President Ilham Aliyev and the fulfilment of our longing for stable and lasting peace. His leadership has once again proven capable of rewriting history – securing a cornerstone of stability in the Caucasus, while also strengthening Azerbaijan-US ties to a true strategic partnership.
I congratulate our nation on this historic achievement and remember the heroic martyrs whose sacrifice made it possible. Their memory beats in the heart of our nation every day. Our martyrs gave their all for this moment, and their spirit will forever guide and protect Azerbaijan.
With great pride in my President and nation, I welcome this new era defined by peace, security and strength.
