From my experience in international business, I learned that one thing matters more than loud statements: who you can talk to when times are difficult.
Azerbaijan has a rare position today. It keeps working relations with Europe, Türkiye, Russia, Central Asia and the Gulf. At the same time, relations with China are developing steadily, as shown by recent high-level visits, growing economic dialogue, and the introduction of a mutual visa-free regime for holders of ordinary passports.
For business, this is very important.
When a country can communicate with all sides, it creates stability. Agreements are followed. Supply chains are not interrupted. Investors feel less political tension. In today’s very divided global environment, this is not something we see often.
The energy sector is a good example. Azerbaijan did not become a reliable partner for Europe overnight. This trust was built over many years through dialogue, consistency and balance. Today, this experience is also reflected in cooperation with China, especially in the area of green energy, where joint projects and long-term planning are becoming more important (CGTN). When trust exists in energy, it usually extends to other industries as well.
In my view, Azerbaijan’s main strength goes beyond natural resources or geography. Its real advantage is predictability, which comes from several factors:
In a region where political issues frequently affect markets, Azerbaijan stands out as an example of how smart diplomacy can protect economic interests from uncertainty. By maintaining good relations with multiple global and regional powers, our country creates a stable environment where trade, investment and energy projects can proceed with confidence. For businesses, it means lower risk, more predictable returns and smoother cross-border operations.
This is a serious competitive advantage, one that many other countries in the region are still striving to achieve, and something that we, as Azerbaijanis, should value and be proud of.
